Badulla is a scenic town located in the Uva Province of Sri Lanka. It is the administrative capital of the Badulla District and a gateway to the eastern and central highlands of the country. Badulla is known for its pleasant climate, colonial architecture, and natural attractions, including the Dunhinda Falls, which is one of the most famous waterfalls in Sri Lanka.


One of the most iconic aspects of traveling to Badulla is the train journey, particularly the scenic route from Colombo, the capital city, to Badulla. The Badulla train, part of Sri Lanka's railway system, offers one of the most picturesque train rides in the world. It winds through stunning landscapes, including lush green valleys, mist-covered mountains, and tea plantations, giving passengers a breathtaking view of Sri Lanka’s hill country.


The train ride to Badulla typically takes about 8-10 hours, but it is well worth the journey due to the spectacular views along the way. The train passes through several notable towns, including Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, and Ella, making it a popular mode of transport for both locals and tourists. The most famous section of this journey is between Kandy and Badulla, where the train crosses the Nine Arches Bridge, a magnificent colonial-era viaduct surrounded by dense forests and tea fields.


Badulla itself, while quieter compared to the tourist hotspots of Kandy or Ella, is a charming town that offers a glimpse into the daily life of Sri Lanka's hill country. The combination of the scenic train ride and the peaceful atmosphere of Badulla makes it a must-visit for those exploring Sri Lanka.
